The long-serving 29-year-old feels the U's, who currently lie fourth in League One, are capable of securing a return to the Championship under boss Aidy Boothroyd.
"We're no longer a small club anymore," said Izzet, who moved to Essex from Charlton in 2001.
"The ambition was previously to stay up, but now things have progressed a lot and the aim is promotion."
